birds & microaggressions

Microaggressions are something that have affected me and many others. As a woman and as a proud mixed Asian-merican I cannot count the number of times I've heard phrases like "What are you?" or "You're smart because you're Asian!"

In working on my high school AP Studio Art Concentration, I realized two things: I enjoyed drawing birds, and I wanted to create art that meant something to me. I created these pieces to highlight the impact words have, and used birds to showcase just how ridiculous these common statements are.
